Tomato Kozula 72 Seeds

Kozula 72 (Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae) is a tall indeterminate tomato with very large heart-shaped fruit of 400–800 g, deep pink to red. The packet holds 10 seeds.

Fruit and plant

• Vigorous vine, 1.8–2.5 m, carrying a heavy fruit load
• Heart-shaped fruit of 400–800 g
• Smooth skin blushing deep pink to red
• Dense, juicy, meaty flesh with few seeds; rich and sweet with a slight tang, for slicing, sauce and purée

Sow into soil at 16–29 °C

Tomato seed germinates well when the soil stays in its optimum range of 16–29 °C. At 20–30 °C seedlings typically appear in 6–8 days. Indoors, cover the seed with 3–6 mm of seed-starting mix. These figures are typical for the species, not a test of this packet.

Growing on

Sow indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost and plant out once the risk of frost has passed, 60–80 cm apart. Use strong stakes or cages from the start. Grow in full sun in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil; water regularly, mulch and feed with a balanced fertiliser.

When to expect fruit

Fruit ripens about 85–90 days after transplanting, later than smaller-fruited tomatoes.

What you get

One packet of 10 seeds of Kozula 72. Tomato seed typically stays usable for 4 years or more when kept cool, dark and dry, so seed you do not sow this season can wait for the next.

FAQ

Why is Kozula 72 slow to ripen?

Each fruit grows to 400–800 g, so the first ripe fruit comes about 85–90 days after planting out. Start seed on time: 6–8 weeks before the last frost.

How much space does it need?

Plant 60–80 cm apart and give each plant a support at least as tall as the 1.8–2.5 m vine.
