1 active seed listings with current packet options and USD prices.
The archived catalog contains 38 Adenium records, many using trade selections and older names such as A. arabicum, A. socotranum, and A. somalense. Kew currently accepts Adenium obesum and treats those three names as synonyms within that taxon. A packet label should still preserve its documented parentage or source rather than being normalized by guesswork.
Adenium obesum is a semi-succulent shrub of desert and dry-shrubland biomes. Its swollen caudex and warm-growing habit make container conditions, drainage, and winter protection central choices.
Kew accepts Adenium obesum; several familiar archived catalog names are listed there as synonyms.
RHS classifies desert rose as needing heated-glasshouse conditions and recommends sowing ripe seed at 21°C.
RHS marks the plant harmful if eaten and advises protective equipment when handling; keep it away from children and pets.
Choose on documented botanical identity and parentage, not a flower photograph alone. Seed-grown progeny can vary, especially where a listing describes a hybrid, mix, or named horticultural line.
Look for an accepted name plus provenance. If a trade synonym is used, the listing should explain how it relates to the accepted taxon.
A named cross should identify parents or breeder evidence. A colour mix cannot guarantee every pictured colour or flower form.
Ask for a current seed-lot date and storage information; the archived records do not establish present viability.
Use the packet's current lot instructions together with species-level guidance. Do not convert a general cultural profile into a germination guarantee.
RHS advises sowing ripe Adenium obesum seed at 21°C. Use clean containers and a free-draining seed medium, keeping it moist rather than waterlogged.
Established desert rose needs strong light, but young seedlings should be acclimated rather than moved abruptly into intense sun.
RHS places Adenium in its heated-glasshouse hardiness category. Grow in a movable container where outdoor temperatures are unsuitable.
Avoid ingestion and sap contact, use gloves for pruning or repotting, and follow the current product label.
Taxonomy and horticultural selection names answer different questions. An accepted species name describes botanical placement; a breeder or trade label may describe a selected form, cross, or marketing line and needs separate evidence.
The accepted Kew taxon spans western tropical Africa to the Arabian Peninsula and Tanzania and is associated with desert or dry shrubland.
Kew currently lists Adenium arabicum and Adenium socotranum as synonyms of A. obesum. Archived trade labels should not be silently presented as independently accepted species.
Labels such as Black Hawk, Dorset Horn, or Royal Crown require breeder or source documentation; the names alone do not guarantee uniform seed-grown offspring.
Use this page as a preparation guide. When a reviewed seed lot becomes active, its product card should provide exact identity, parentage where relevant, packet quantity, price, image evidence, and current sowing notes.
Not in the current Kew treatment used here. Both are listed as synonyms of Adenium obesum, although the names remain common in horticultural trade.
Do not assume so. Seedlings can vary, especially from hybrids and mixes. Uniform reproduction requires evidence about the cross and propagation method.
RHS advises sowing ripe Adenium obesum seed at 21°C. This is species guidance, not a guarantee for an old or undocumented seed lot.
That depends on climate, but RHS places it in the heated-glasshouse category. In frost-prone regions it needs protected, warm conditions.
RHS marks it harmful if eaten and advises protective equipment when handling. Keep plants and seed packets out of reach and follow label precautions.
