About this variety
Jarson-7 (Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae) is a green-when-ripe beefsteak tomato: its 200–350 g fruit turns amber with raspberry-pink streaks and stays green inside, marbled red. The packet holds 10 seeds.
Fruit and plant
- Indeterminate vine up to 2 m
- Mid-season beefsteak fruit of 200–350 g
- Green skin turning amber with raspberry-pink streaks at ripeness
- Juicy green flesh with red marbling; sweet with a slight bitterness
Sow into soil at 16–29 °C
Tomato seed germinates well when the soil stays in its optimum range of 16–29 °C. At 20–30 °C seedlings typically appear in 6–8 days. Indoors, cover the seed with 3–6 mm of seed-starting mix. These figures are typical for the species, not a test of this packet.
Growing on
Sow indoors and plant out 60–90 cm apart into fertile, well-drained soil at pH 6.0–6.8. Stake or cage the vine to carry the fruit. It prefers warm, sunny conditions with steady moisture and no waterlogging.
When to expect fruit
Fruit ripens about 70–75 days after transplanting.
What you get
One packet of 10 seeds of Jarson-7. Tomato seed typically stays usable for 4 years or more when kept cool, dark and dry, so seed you do not sow this season can wait for the next.
