Potentilla atrosanguinea seeds
This packet contains 15 seeds of Potentilla atrosanguinea, commonly called dark crimson cinquefoil or ruby cinquefoil. Kew accepts the species as a Himalayan perennial, and the Royal Horticultural Society describes it as a clump-forming plant with three-lobed, silky-haired leaves and open sprays of warm-coloured flowers.
Garden use
The loose flower sprays and compact perennial habit fit cottage borders, rock gardens, banks and naturalistic planting. Flower colour in seed-grown plants may vary.
Sowing
Sow in a clean tray or small pots of free-draining seed compost. Scatter thinly, cover lightly and water gently. Keep the compost evenly moist but not saturated. Provide bright light and steady conditions, then transplant seedlings once they are large enough to handle.
Growing conditions
RHS guidance recommends full sun and moderately fertile, well-drained soil. The species tolerates chalk, loam and sand and can grow across acid, neutral or alkaline conditions. It is especially suited to cooler situations. Space established plants so air can circulate around the clumps.
