About this variety
Himalayan bedstraw (Galium acutum, also sold as Galium himalense) is a cool-climate perennial from high-altitude Himalayan slopes and meadows, 30–60 cm tall, with fine whorled leaves and tiny star-shaped white or pale yellow flowers. The packet holds 20 seeds.
Sowing
- Sow on the surface of moist soil.
- Cold stratification for 4–6 weeks may improve germination.
- Keep at 15–20 °C.
It needs cool summers
This is a plant of forest edges, rocky slopes and alpine meadows. It suits temperate and high-altitude climates with cool summers; in hot lowland gardens it is unlikely to do well.
Site and soil
Well-drained, humus-rich soil, partial shade to full sun in cooler climates. Keep moisture moderate and avoid waterlogging.
What the plant looks like
Thin, wiry stems carry narrow leaves in whorls, giving a fine, feathery look. Tiny flowers open in loose clusters in summer. Creeping roots let it spread gently into a ground cover in rock gardens, wildflower meadows and naturalised plantings.
What you get
One packet of 20 seeds sold as Galium acutum / Galium himalense. We do not state a germination percentage for this lot.
