About this variety
Kozula 136 (Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae), also listed as Zolta Zebra Plaska, is a flattened yellow beefsteak tomato of 200–350 g, orange-yellow with a pink blush at the blossom end. The packet holds 10 seeds.
Fruit and plant
- Indeterminate habit but limited height, usually no more than 1.5 m, with regular leaves
- Flattened beefsteak fruit of 200–350 g with rounded shoulders; large fruit may curve
- Orange-yellow skin with a pink blush, strongest at the blossom end
- Yellow flesh marbled pink at the centre; aromatic taste for slicing and salads
Sow into soil at 16–29 °C
Tomato seed germinates well when the soil stays in its optimum range of 16–29 °C. At 20–30 °C seedlings typically appear in 6–8 days. Indoors, cover the seed with 3–6 mm of seed-starting mix. These figures are typical for the species, not a test of this packet.
Growing on
Sow indoors 6–8 weeks before the last expected frost and plant out once the danger of frost has passed, 50–60 cm apart. Because the plant stays near 1.5 m, it needs less staking than taller vines. Give full sun, well-draining soil and consistent watering.
When to expect fruit
Fruit ripens about 80–90 days after transplanting.
What you get
One packet of 10 seeds of Kozula 136. Tomato seed typically stays usable for 4 years or more when kept cool, dark and dry, so seed you do not sow this season can wait for the next.
