Tobacco Seeds – Yellow Twist Bud (Heirloom Burley Variety)
The Yellow Twist Bud is a distinguished heirloom Nicotiana tabacum variety, dating back to the late 19th century. Renowned for its large, yellowing leaves at maturity and ease of air curing, this Burley-type tobacco is ideal for both novice and experienced growers seeking a versatile and high-quality crop.
Description and Characteristics:
• Plant Structure: Yellow Twist Bud plants are robust, reaching heights of approximately 5 to 7 feet. They exhibit a pyramidal form with closely spaced leaves, providing good wind resistance.
• Leaf Quality: The leaves are large, averaging 12 inches wide by 20 inches long, and turn a light yellow when ripe. They are easy to air cure, resulting in a light tobacco suitable for various uses.
• Flavor Profile: This variety offers a mild, smooth flavor, making it suitable for cigarettes, pipe blends, and cigar fillers.
• Adaptability: Yellow Twist Bud is adaptable to various climates and demonstrates consistent performance with proper care.
Cultivation Guidelines:
1. Seed Germination: Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost. Press seeds lightly onto the soil surface without covering, as they require light for germination.
2. Soil Requirements: Yellow Twist Bud thrives in well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Incorporating organic matter can enhance growth and yield.
3. Sunlight and Watering: Provide full sunlight and consistent watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
4. Harvesting and Curing: Harvest leaves individually as they mature, starting from the lower ones. Air cure in a shaded, well-ventilated area to preserve the mild flavor and aroma characteristic of Yellow Twist Bud.
