About this variety
Tobacco Seeds – SV-13 (High-Protein Air-Cured Variety)
The SV-13 is a specialized Nicotiana tabacum variety developed by the All-Russian Research Institute of Tobacco, Makhorka, and Tobacco Products (VNIITTI). This air-cured tobacco is notable for its high protein content and unique morphological characteristics, making it a valuable addition to diverse tobacco applications.
Description and Characteristics:
• Plant Structure: SV-13 exhibits an ellipsoidal shape with prominent, upright leaves. The plants reach a height of approximately 165–180 cm, providing a substantial yield.
• Leaf Quality: The large, sessile leaves are dark green with a bluish tint due to fine pubescence, turning yellow upon maturation. This variety is characterized by the simultaneous maturation of leaves across multiple tiers, reducing the number of harvests required.
• Maturation Period: The time from planting to the maturation of the uppermost leaves ranges between 122–158 days, indicating a mid-season maturity.
• Adaptability: SV-13 is adaptable to various climates and demonstrates consistent performance with proper care.
Cultivation Guidelines:
1. Seed Germination: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Press seeds lightly onto the soil surface without covering, as they require light for germination.
2. Soil Requirements: SV-13 thrives in well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Adding organic matter can enhance growth and yield.
3. Sunlight and Watering: Provide full sunlight and consistent watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
4. Harvesting and Curing: Due to the synchronized maturation of leaves, SV-13 allows for efficient harvesting. Air cure in a shaded, well-ventilated area to preserve the high protein content and unique flavor profile.
Why Choose SV-13 Tobacco?
SV-13 stands as a testament to advanced tobacco breeding, offering high protein content and efficient harvesting due to its unique maturation pattern. Its robust growth and distinctive leaf characteristics make it an ideal choice for growers seeking a high-quality, versatile tobacco variety.
