Tobacco Seeds – Ohio Dutch (Premium Cigar Filler and Pipe Tobacco Variety)
The Ohio Dutch is a distinguished Nicotiana tabacum variety, celebrated for its long, narrow leaves and mild, aromatic flavor. Originating from the United States, this heirloom variety has been a cornerstone in tobacco cultivation, offering excellent qualities for both cigar filler and pipe tobacco.
Description and Characteristics:
• Plant Structure: Ohio Dutch plants exhibit a robust, upright growth habit, reaching heights of approximately 4 to 5 feet. The plant features long, narrow, pointed leaves, each measuring up to 30 inches in length and 10 to 12 inches in width.
• Leaf Quality: The leaves are light green during growth and cure to a rich, golden-brown color. They possess a smooth texture and are known for their excellent burning properties, contributing to a mild and pleasant smoking experience.
• Flavor Profile: Ohio Dutch offers a mild, nutty flavor with subtle sweetness, making it perfect for blending or standalone use.
• Adaptability: This variety is adaptable to various climates and demonstrates consistent performance with proper care.
Cultivation Guidelines:
1. Seed Germination: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Press seeds lightly onto the soil surface without covering, as they require light for germination.
2. Soil Requirements: Ohio Dutch thrives in well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Adding organic matter can enhance growth and yield.
3. Sunlight and Watering: Provide full sunlight and consistent watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
4. Harvesting and Curing: Harvest leaves individually as they mature, starting from the lower ones. Air cure in a shaded, well-ventilated area to preserve the mild flavor and aroma characteristic of Ohio Dutch tobacco.
