About this variety
Small-flowered catchfly (Silene gallica) is a small annual wildflower, 10–40 cm tall, with tiny white or pale pink flowers often veined in dark pink. Sticky hairs on its stems trap small insects. The packet holds 30 seeds.
Also known as: Common catchfly, French catchfly. Family Caryophyllaceae.
Sow on the surface
- Sow directly outdoors in early spring or autumn.
- Scatter onto well-drained soil and press lightly; the seed needs light.
- Thin seedlings if they come up crowded.
Where it fits
A plant of fields, roadsides and rocky slopes in Europe and the Mediterranean. It takes full sun and sandy, rocky or poor soil, needs little water once established and suits temperate and Mediterranean climates. Use it in wildflower patches, rock gardens and borders.
It will come back
The plant reseeds easily, so a patch tends to return year after year. Leave some plants to set seed if you want this, or remove spent stems if you do not.
What you get
One packet of 30 Silene gallica seeds. We have no sourced emergence time for this lot and do not state a germination percentage.
