About this variety

About this botanical material

This listing is for one natural cone of Picea smithiana, commonly known as Himalayan spruce or Morinda spruce. Kew recognises the species as an accepted temperate conifer native from north-eastern Afghanistan to the central Himalaya. The supplied object is a dried botanical craft material; it is not a packet of seeds and is not sold as viable planting material.

Natural variation

Each cone is naturally formed and will differ from the photographs. Length, width, curve, colour, scale pattern, stem shape, surface wear and degree of opening can vary. Small chips, loose scales, plant dust and asymmetry may occur as the cone dries. These features are part of the botanical material's character and should be expected.

Suggested uses

Use the cone in arrangements, wreaths, seasonal displays, nature tables, still-life styling, educational collections, collage or mixed-media projects. Handle it gently and keep it dry. Before combining it with glue, wire, paint, resin, candles or other materials, test your method and follow the safety instructions for the craft products being used.

Care and safety

Store the unused cone in a dry, ventilated place away from damp, strong heat, open flame and prolonged direct sunlight. It is not intended for eating, tea, supplements, medicine, skincare, incense, animal use or children's unsupervised play. The gallery contains four actual Deodar product photographs of the Picea smithiana cone type offered; every image was visually reviewed on 2026-09-14.

Growing notes

Review the description and our agrotechnics guide before sowing. Local conditions can change germination timing.
