About this variety
These are seeds of the Kimia Gold date, a golden-hued date of the date palm Phoenix dactylifera (family Arecaceae). The packet holds 5 seeds. Growing a date palm from seed is a long project: the first job is getting the seed to sprout, which takes weeks, not days.
How long germination takes
For the species, germination typically starts after about 21–26 days and is complete after 38–40 days. Do not discard the pot after the first month.
Sowing and early care
- Sow in well-drained soil in a sunny spot.
- Water regularly but do not overwater: waterlogged soil invites root rot.
- Feed now and then once the seedlings are growing.
What the name means for your seedlings
Kimia Gold names the fruit the seeds were taken from. We do not state what fruit a seed-grown palm will bear, how tall it will grow or when it will fruit, because we have no figures for that.
Storing the seed
Date palm seed is orthodox: dried seed tolerates cold storage. Keep unsown seed dry and cool until you sow.
What you get
5 seeds of Phoenix dactylifera from Kimia Gold dates.
