Euonymus alatus seeds are a rare and unique addition to any garden. A member of the Celastraceae family, this ornamental plant boasts a range of impressive characteristics.
Euonymus alatus is a shrub that can grow up to 1.8 m tall, with shoots that often creep and are slightly tetrahedral in shape. The leaf blades are 2.5-7 cm long and 1-3 cm wide, obovate or elliptical in shape. Blooms occur in May-June, with simple, tri-flowered, or solitary flowers featuring petals 3-4 mm long and broadly ovate in shape. The stamens have filaments about 1 mm long, while the style is approximately 1 mm long. The fruits are small, purple-red in color, but not as showy as other types of euonymus.
Euonymus alatus is native to open areas, mixed forests, among shrubs, on rocks, and meadow slopes, mainly in river and stream valleys and near the seashore.
Euonymus alatus has been used as an ornamental plant in gardening due to its wind resistance, dust, gas, and smoke resistance, and ability to transfer to city conditions. It is moderately heat and drought resistant, tolerates pruning well, and moderately resistant to diseases. However, it can be damaged by pests. This plant is undemanding to soil conditions and grows in a wide range of soil richness, acidity, and texture, but does not tolerate stagnant moisture.
Euonymus alatus is not considered a threatened species.
