🌿 Botanical Description

The Coast Redwood is an evergreen tree with a straight trunk, reaching heights over 100m and trunk diameters of 6-9m. The bark is red-brown, with deep cracks and peels off long longitudinal fibers. The thickness of the bark reaches 70cm. Young shoots are green and round, turning brown and furrowed with age. There are two types of shoots: conducting shoots that grow from year to year, forming a narrow-conic crown, and feathery shoots that live 5-7 years before falling off. Needles are pointed, linear-lanceolate, dark green above, shiny, and paler below, with two stripes of stomata on the sides of the keel passing in the middle. Mature cones are red-brown or black-brown, consist of 20-25 corymbose scales, and sit on a short petiole, along with which (and sometimes with the entire twig) the seeds fall.
